Welcome to Family and Consumer Science! This class is filled with many hands-on activities, which requires critical thinking from the students. Family and Consumer Science is a class that studies how individuals and families work together. This nine-week course will explore simple cooking methods, child development and babysitting, and clothing care.

Unit 1: Understand and apply laundry and clothing care procedures: -Devise a plan for clothing care -Clothing fibers, clothing care procedures, stain removal, button sewing
Unit 2: Child Development and Babysitting -Interpret the characteristics of a growing child. -Devise a plan for responsible babysitting. -Define Child Development Terms: physical, social/emotional, mental development, identify development of children 1-5 years old, select appropriate toys/books/games, babysitting project
Unit 3: Food Production -Apply proper food safety and sanitation procedures. -Categorize kitchen tools by their uses. -Read and follow a recipe accurately. -Demonstrate above standards with 3 cooking labs)
Supplies -Pen and/or pencils -Binder with an exploratory folder -Closed-toe shoes during cooking labs
Grading Policy Students will be graded on the above class standards and learning goals to be given a final grade of an O - Outstanding, S- Satisfactory, N - Needs improvement, U - Unacceptable Performance.
Retake Policy Only students with non-proficient scores will be allowed to retake assessments. Before retaking an assessment, student must complete relearning criteria.
Late/Missing work All grades on late/missing work will given full credit at the end of the nine-week exploratory rotation. Communication of late and missing work will be done through infinite campus and individual student/parent notices.

Respect: Respect adults, peers, and class property. Please no disruptive actions.
Responsible: Come to class prepared, complete work on time, follow directions, be in the class when the bell-rings, be a good listener.
Safe: Be aware of your actions to keep yourself and classmates safe. All students have the right to be in a safe environment.

Chromebooks, Ipads, and other technology devices will be allowed ONLY through teacher permission and classroom projects/activities. Students are expected to use their technology respectfully and responsibly.
Food Allergies In this class we will be cooking and enjoying the food that the students prepare and make. If student has any food allergies, please inform teacher immediately.
This form will be handed out in class. Students will need to get parent/guardian signature and return to teacher.
